National Thank You Month

January 2012 is National Thank You Month.
With life being the fast paced, demanding place that it is these days, it can be difficult to slow down and remember to say thank you now and then. But when you do stop to think, it can hit you that there are many people in your day-to-day life that deserve a little recognition for the things that they do. And it’s surprising the effect the two little words can have on brightening up someone’s day.
Think about a normal day. What about the people at your place of work? Have your co-workers helped you out recently? If you’ve recently started working there, have you thanked them for making you feel welcome and part of the team?
Then there are the people who you may only see fleetingly, but still play an important part. Think about the postperson, or the workers on tills in shops and supermarkets. Let them know you appreciate their effort.
And Thank You Month can also be about being thankful for the things you already have. Count your blessings and take the time to think of those who go without, who are less well off, and charities are always thankful for whatever you can spare, be it time or money. Perhaps volunteer some of your time this month or give donations.
National Thank You Month lasts, as the name suggests, for the entirety of January, so you have plenty of time to get in some thanks. If you’re out at the shops, eating in a restaurant, or spending time with the family, volunteering, just take a moment to reflect, and spread some thanks.
